B) Sorry about not getting here for a while. I have been feeling a bit under the weather on and off and have been trying to take it easy without just staying home altogether. I worked the flea market in St Pete over the weekend and think I pulled some chest muscles loading and unloading the trailer.

Yesterday I went to lunch with some of the family visiting from France. I met one of the newest members of the family, Zoe. She is a 4 1/2 year old that speaks 4 languages and has a personality you could not believe. French, English, German and Greek, dang, I am still having trouble with speaking American. It was a fun day. Once I saw that they had a pool I decided to turn it into a treasure hunt and I sort of dropped a whole lot of coins in the pool. Once Zoe spotted them she started working on her father to get in the pool and "Find" her the coins. It worked, he spent about an hour finding pirate treasure all over the pool.

Zoe with her first hand full of Treasure coins.

I have been having some serious chest pains that I believe are just pulled muscles but it can still worry the bejabbers out of you when chest pain wakes you up in the middle of the night. I also took today off work at the shop and went to the VA to see what the doctor thinks. After waiting at the Bradenton, VA for 3 hours, I never even got in to see him so I left my phone number for him to call me later and I went home. Not feeling like going to the shop to work I decided to go home and rest. I still have not even heard from him. It is going on 4:00 and they close at 5. I think it is just some pulled muscles, but, again, I am not a doctor or heart specialist. I get this kind of reaction whenever I have to deal with the VA.

My wife is on the Meds By Mail system and they are constantly letting her meds run out. They blame everything on the computer system. Her doctor has spent an hour trying to call in her medications only to be told that the system is not responding and the scripts never do get called in. At that point we have to go to Publix and pay for scripts. A doctor does not have the time to keep getting on the computer to set up her meds for an hour or two every time he has to prescribe them. With the system being blamed by the incompetent idiots on the phones you don't have any way to file a complaint or correct the situation. Meantime, the wife keeps running out of her blood pressure medications and her blood pressure keeps getting way to high and is endangering her health. I need to come up with a way to get to someone at the VA or in the "Meds By Mail" system who can get some results or fire some of the idiots working there so we can get someone else in there to do their job without having to be prodded with a branding iron.

I am trying to get rid of a couple of the boats and parts I have laying around the shop. Pete is right about it going into a buyers market. I am going to have to get some bottom paint for the Hatteras so I can get it off of the trailer and in the water where it belongs. I'll have to see how that goes over the next few days. I don't know what I can do with the other boats but I have to do something very soon. The landlord is on me about getting them out of here. I have no where to put them so I have to figure something out pretty soon.. I may end up having to cut the tri-hull up if I can't find someplace to store it very soon.

It's always something!

Hey, no problem Russ. I keep track of you on your Facebook page. Yes, that girl is awseome. I also had a great encounter with my granddaughter on her third birthday.
Russ you don't need bottom paint if you have access to bottom cleaning equipment (a hookah unit). Just launch it and clean the bottom whenever you can. Bottom paint reduces the value of the boat.

Hey russ,
you should have a estate sale/tag sale, advertise it for a two or three weeks if you can talk the landlord into it.
....if boats are insured or area where they are stored is and were damage in one of our hurricanes you could claim that.
I would help out if i had any space but i lve in a condo.

Russ, is the Tri-Hull you mentioned that Whaler style boat with the center console you have sitting there?

B) Ahoy Dell, the little Whaler with the center console is a customer's boat. I patched 7 holes in the bottom and still have several more. I have no idea of what it got into but I had no idea of the number of holes in it when he dropped it off. Now I found out that the boat also has termites in it and I assume that they are in the wood sub-structure and possibly the transom. I saw what I thought were ants last week but at closer inspection I found out that they were termites, not ants. I sounded the hull and transom and am hearing hollow sounding areas near the transom and rear deck areas. I am going to have to drill a few holes to see if the wood is solid or if it has damage before going any farther. I hope the critters haven't gotten into the wood at the transom.

Pete, the boat has bottom paint on it already and requires bottom paint if it is to be left in the water for extended periods of time. I would be diving every other month to scrape and scrub the bottom if there was no paint on it. Smaller boats can go without paint but these big boats need to be painted with good quality bottom paint that is formulated to the local area. My Carri Craft was painted but I still had to get in the water and scrub the bottom once in a while because the paint was not the right one for this area. The Hatteras needs bottom paint and zincs to keep the running gear free from corrosion. The trouble is that the paint is very high dollar and I am going to need about 2 gallons or more for two or three good coats. My old wooden 40 foot Chris took 5 gallons because the wood would soak it up on the first two coats. At least this one is fiberglass and won't soak the paint into the bottom. Still, I have to get the paint and get the Hatteras lifted off the trailer and painted before having it towed to a marina and put in the water. Then I need to get it to my slip where I live. Tow it, drive it, pull it, push it or let it drift there, whatever it takes.

The picture you posted shows my boat that I sold three months ago. Let me know when you are going to tow your spare boat down to John's parking space in Ft. Myers and I will go with you.

 Yeah, that was the only photo I had of the Hatteras from the front that showed the bottom paint. I had to dig it out of the old filed photos. I may take the boat to John's place next week. I have the flea market to work this weekend. I am thinking of taking the red Bass Boat down there after I load some stuff in it and get a cover for it so it doesn't look like a shipwreck. I would really enjoy you going along. I'll get back to you with a day after the flea market this weekend.

I spoke with John today and I am going to head down to Stock Island sometime in December to bring Baboon up here. I may spend a little time cruising around fishing or diving or just knocking about for a week or two while I am down there. I already told the wife I am going but I didn't figure out a set date yet. I also want to get the Hatteras bottom painted and get it in the water and in my slip. That is going to require about 3 gallons of good bottom paint. I have to get the boat off the trailer before doing any painting because I am not buying the trailer with the boat and the owner does not want the trailer painted. It is brand new and cost about $11,000. To rich for my blood. Besides, I can't haul the boat with my truck. It weighs somewhere near 25,000 pounds or more. I can move it around the shop lot but out on the road is not possible. It is to wide and to high and requires permits. Nope! I ain't an over the road boat hauler anymore.

I got another coat of clear on the Mustang today and it is really looking great. I want to put three to five more clear coats until I have the effects I want. It is really going to look like a show car. I have worked a holographic metal flake into the finish and it is coming out just great. It changes color when you see it from different angles or in different lighting. It is really looking good.

Here are a few shots of it. I have a lot of work to do yet but I am real happy with the effects so far.

B) Thank You, My Friend, but wait until it is finished. It is at about 75% to 80% finished but when I get the clear coats on and buffed out it will look many times better. Oh yeah, then I have to put it back together. All new lighting and the interior and anything else will be redone to the point of looking like a very special Show Car. It also looks much better in person than in a photo.

I am going to work the flea market tomorrow but if it doesn't improve real soon I am going to close the flea Market selling and remove the junk to my other storage garage,

Pete, give me a call sometime tomorrow. I will be at the flea yard in St Pete all day until sometime around 3 or 4 depending on how things sell. No sales and I will be gone fishing off of the Skyway rest area on the south side on my way home.

B) Ahoy Pete, Thank You so very much for all of your help today. I am sitting here in front of the TV with my busted foot up on a pillow trying to rest and let it stop hurting before going to bed. That gas tank that fell on my foot has most likely either broken my toe or possibly just hurt it very badly. Either way I will be hurting for a while with this injury. The tank didn't have a lot of fuel in it but the weight alone was enough to damage my foot to the point of constant pain for the past 4 hours. This is crazy, I thought that all of the work under the truck was going to be the painful relapse for today. I am planning on going over to the truck first thing in the morning and trying to get it going like we talked about. I will give it one more try and if I can't get it going I will call Joe and have him tow it to his shop and fix it however he can. If I can't get the trailer over here by Wednesday I may have to call you to help me with moving it if the flea market won't let me leave it there until the truck is fixed.

Today on the way to the flea market I stopped for gas at a Shell station about a mile before the flea market. Shortly after pulling out of the station the truck started running rough. I turned the truck on to another street and thought the engine would clear and start running right if I revved it up a bit to clear it up. It started to run a little better but then cut out completely. I pulled to the side but a curb kept me from getting the truck off the road. Eventually, with the help from a couple of people and a police officer we managed to get the truck out of the street.......just barely. It was still very close to the curb lane and still needed to be moved back some more. I walked to a nearby store to get a can of starting fluid to give the engine a boost so I could back it up a few feet. About that time Pete called to find out where I was at the flea market. I asked if he could help me with the truck and he drove right over. He pulled up in his white Corvette. Oops, that ain't going to pull the truck back off of the street. We went back over to Pete's house and got his truck and pulled my truck into a parking lot. The next few hours was spent running around for parts, lunch and all sorts of stuff to try to get fuel running into the engine. Around 3:00 we decided to go over to the flea market and close my trailer and head home. Pete ran me home and while unloading my tools from his truck I managed to drop a heavy gas tank on my foot.

The problem with the truck seems to be either the fuel pump or a combination of things. It could also be the same problem I had several months ago with the fuse panel and fried wires and fuses. I will do some more work on it tomorrow and try to find the problem. I have loaded my tools into the wife's car and am ready to leave at first light. Meantime I will read up on the truck's possible problems in the repair manual. Tonight I am going to keep my foot propped up and rest.

Thanks again, Pete!

Ahoy Russ, I didn't think that lightweight plastic gas can can cause so much pain. I need to drop it on MY foot to see what it does. I thought it was empty. Monday I have an appointment with my in-laws at noon. After that I can help you with your truck.

B) Yeah, I didn't think it was that heavy either but this morning the toe and surrounding area is black and blue and hurts like a truck is parked on it. The tank is only 28 pounds and has less than 2 gallons of gas in it. I have dropped much heavier things on my feet over the years and had no problems. I guess it must have hit just right or the tennis sneakers were no kind of protection. Anyhow, I am getting ready to head out the door and see what I can get done today. I have already called Joe and told him that if I can't get it going this morning I will have him bring his tow truck and take it to his shop and fix it. I will repair that fuel line where I cut it to install the electric pump before I try another line. Meantime I had better get going before they get there to start work and decide to have my truck towed away. Thanks Again, Pete. If I am still there around noon and need help I will give you a call. Man, I hate trucks!

Russ
Is your truck gas or diesel? My 97 Ford 7.3 Diesel was running like crap no power like it was out of fuel. Problem was it was low on engine oil apparently the high pressure fuel pump runs off oil pressure even though the gauge was showing normal changed the oil 14qts (ouch!) and the truck runs fine.

It's a 5.4L gas. We just got done working on it. It is a dead fuel pump. Russ is going to have his mechanic tow it tomorrow. He will also fix it.

B) Thanks, Pete, I was going to call tomorrow and ask about getting my trailer back to the shop. I don't think Joe moved the truck today but I was out with my cousin, Cathy, Sherene and Cathy's husband George over at Woody's Roo. I will have to move the trailer tomorrow. I am not going to be able to work the flea market in St Pete without the truck running so I have to bring the trailer home. I'll head over there to get some things out of the truck and load it into the trailer so I can get it all here in case Joe can't get the truck here tomorrow. I need some of my stuff for work here at the house. The shop work will have to wait until I can get the truck running again and have it to haul stuff. I didn't realize how much I depended on that truck for. I am lost without it. I also had to put two new tires on the wife's car this morning. That bit the wallet pretty hard. If the wallet was full I wouldn't mind it so much.

Pete, I also have someone coming to look at the Vortec tomorrow and need to get it out of the back of the shop and set up to start. I have the shop crane and can do it pretty quick but I need some of my tools and my big floor jack from out of the truck. That is why I am running to St Pete in the morning after my EKG and blood work. I'll call you when I get ready to hit the road to the truck.

I missed an appointment at the VA this morning. I was supposed to go in for blood work and an EKG from last weeks chest pain incident. Tomorrow will have to do. EKG at 9 and blood work at 10. Then I have to run to the truck and get some stuff out of it. I have to remember to empty the wife's car so I can haul some stuff over here. She has a little Toyota Corolla with a huge trunk. :woohoo:

B) Pete, I dug out two of my GPS machines that have most of my old dive sites in them and pulled out my old paper charts that have a lot of the dive sites marked on them along with GPS co-ordinates. When we get the chance we will have to do some investigative diving around some of them. I have spots from the upper Texas coast all the way along the coast back to the upper Chesapeake Bay. I have already explored many of these sites and have found a lot of "reasons" to do some more dives and explorations on a whole lot of them. I'll show you the charts and GPS locations when we get together with John. Maybe we can get a little time to work on some ideas next weekend. I'm sure we can find a few sites to dive or just check out with very little effort.

Russ I looked at the charts you showed me and I am really impressed. I worked in the Keys and on the Atocha and I think you found one of the missing 1622 fleet vessels or part of the 1733 fleet or maybe something completely different. We need to check these out.
