B) I already did that and the lawyer is supposed to also be getting an "in car", video that will show the driver at the time of impact. We have really been getting the runaround on those. Wanna guess why it would be so hard to get evidence to show what is recorded inside the car and outside the front windshield? That is why they are trying to say they want Sherene to say what happened in their favor. If she says it was her fault they don't have to supply the video evidence. It smells like a fish market when they start asking questions. :(

Did that.

My new floor shifter kit just came. I have to get off here and see if I can make it work. Main problems I can see are going to be the steering wheel lock and the power connections to the transmission. I have to concentrate on this and get it right the first time if I can. The rental has to go back tomorrow. Today if I can get a ride back from Enterprise. I think it may be to later to get tomorrows payment dropped. I should have had it back by 11. It is 3:00 now. Nope, I may as well just take it back tomorrow like I planned. Sherene, the Wife is on me because she wants to use the rental to go shopping. She can't even walk without screaming in pain. Her mind is telling her one thing and her body another. I got to get this truck fixed NOW! See Ya!

:( This is insane. I got to work under the truck and found out why it has been breaking shifters. It has always been a hard shifting truck but I thought that was just because of the 4 wheel drive and whatever else it could throw at me. Actually, I didn;t do to much trying to figure it out. Yesterday I was under the truck working on plumbing the new shifter connections. I wanted to shift the truck into neutral. I had to use a 12 inch adjustable to move the little side shifter that controls the tranny. That is insane! There is no reason that it should be that hard to shift. Any other automatic can be shifted with two fingers. This one is insane. I think either the shifter is screwed up or the tranny is. I have to get hold of a transmission specialist ti see if it can be fixed without removing the trans or replacing it. If the little side shifter is the problem I should be able to remove it and replace it. But if the transmission is stiff or has something worn it may require removing the trans. Not something I care to do at this time. Healthwise! Any suggestions?

:( I have been trying all afternoon to locate one of the shifter module that I think is bad but nobody has one. It's just a transmission part, right? Why is it so hard to locate? I an going to have to go to the local take it off yourself and see if one of their trucks has this transmission. 4 wheel drive automatic 4 or 5 speed would work I think. If I get it off of the tranny tomorrow and find that the transmission is the problem and not the shifter module I might as well junk the truck. I don't have the kind of money to throw into it that a new or replacement transmission would cost. I am seeing prices like $3,000 and there about for this transmission. In me younger days I rebuilt a lot of transmissions but I could lift them and work on them. Back then the big trucks had manual transmissions. I did very little automatic repairs. I usually towed them to Norfolk to a transmission shop and added on the towing to the repair bill. . Now I am lucky I can get to the side shifter. The weight I would be working with would stop me. I used to be able to drop a Ford truck trans on my chest and crawl out from under those big delivery trucks. I'm afraid that is out of the question now.

Okay, I'll let you know how this goes over the next few days. :S

Russ, transmission repair is a scam. I had an automatic tranny go out in my Ford Aerostar and decided to fix it myself. Luckily there is a tranny shop in St Pete that supplies rebuild kits to other shops and the general public. It's called a 'ramp kit.' It has all the seals, O-rings, gaskets and friction discs necessary to rebuild an automatic tranny. Cost: $75. And the rebuild shops want to charge you $2,000 (or more) to rebuild a tranny! Where does all the excess money go? I was seriously thinking of opening my own transmission repair shop.

B) Thank You, Pete. I have only rebuilt two automatics in the last ten years so I am not interested in getting into something the size and weight of this 4 X 4 Super Duty F-250. This thing is massive from what I see under the truck. I do not have a transmission jack stand and am not interested in buying one at this stage of the game. I want to get this POS running and get rid of it. I want to get away from working on every one else's junk and go do what I want for a change. I am sure I can crack the books and rebuild this if I had to but I don't even want to do the work I am doing now. I may have beat the cancer but I still have very high pain from the broken back and I am going to have to get it repaired or stay on these stupid pain pills the rest of my life. I opt for the surgery and get off the pills. I know, I am 75 and have been in a major fight with a very deadly cancer for about 4 years that has taken a terrible toll on my body and mind. I need to fix both of them. My father is 95 and in better shape than I am. That is crazy. I feel like I just rolled down off of a mountain and then an avalanche rolled down on top of me. I am eating like a horse to put on some weight and getting out to working and walking to try to build up my muscles and strength and put some weight back on my bones. I was 6'3"and 235 for about 35 years and got used to being able to pick up engine parts or whatever got in my way. Now I get tired just looking at engine parts. I am up to 169 as of this evenings weigh in. I have also lost some height from the vertebra they removed and replaced with metal braces. I went through 4 back surgeries in the last three years. My brothers noticed it right off and I am sure my grandson will too. He was always measuring himself against my marks on the kitchen door frame. When he comes over the next time he will see that his 6'2" is now higher up than my last mark. Of course he may be taller anyhow. His father was over 6'5". The spinal damage from the cancer and the surgical repairs and removal of cancerous bone has been rough but I will keep fighting it no matter what it takes. I am very Lucky the Lord saw fit to keep me here and I intend to enjoy every day he allows me to stay. Maybe there's a treasure out there I am meant to find. Who knows? So, I will concentrate on what I want to do and not rebuilding junk like I have done all my life. If I can't fix it quick and get on with what I want to do I will junk it and find something else to drive. We lost the car in Sherene's accident and now the truck is trying to cost me even more money. Bad move, truck, it could send you to the scrap heap.

B) Ahoy Y'All, :S Okay, I got the truck running a few days ago. I created a kind of Marine Off-road combination of a shifter. It works smoother and I don't have the worry of breaking another shifter or transmission attachment. At least for now it is working. That means a whole lot . In the morning I have a 7:00AM appointment at Moffitt about 55 or so miles up the road. I have been running short trips around here to be sure the new shifter design will hold together and not break or quit shifting right when I need it. :woohoo: :woohoo:

I have some photos of the conversion but I am having trouble downloading them to this computer. This stupid google crap has taken over my photo program and refuses to connect with my phone. I used to just plug the phone into the computer and the photo program would download any new photos in the phone without my having to identify or approve any photos. All of a sudden that isn't working and Google has hidden some of my photos in some kind of storage program. If I want to post photos that I took today with my phone on here I am SOL. I just now plugged my phone into the computer and nothing comes up. I used to just plug the phone in while I was writing and the Pooter would show me any new photos in it. I could then post or download them to my files. Now? NOTHING!.....

Okay, I have been trying to download a photo and am now getting stupid Microsoft password changes"required" and other crazy crap. I am going to get off here and see if I can get it fixed. Later Y'Al!

B) :( This week has been a major disaster. it kind of started at the bottom, and went DOWN! :S

The shifter has been working better than the factory system but that is where it ended. I have had trouble with lighting and all sorts of power problems. Every time I get some money together to go after a car I run into three other problems. Mostly sort of minor stuff but it still takes some time and money to get it back together. For instance; Once I got the shifter working I created some power problems. The shifter is the center of all sorts of electrical controls. Yup! I got the shifter going just great and then some guy followed me into a 7-11 and told me my brake lights were out. When I got home I checked it out and found that my turn signals were also out. Obviously I had cut or broke a connection to the column where the shifter handle was supposed to handle those functions. No big deal, I will just trace the wires and find out where the disconnect is, right? Just about then the kids come over and say they can't pay the rent and are going to have to get the RV out of the campground. I am up to my neck in alligators here and don't have the ability to pay them up. Now the only option is to remove the RV to my shop and put the kids up here. Now I'm thinking that this could actually be a good thing. The girls are usually pretty good with the wife and she could really use some help while she is healing. I can't get her back to a doctor for an evaluation or treatment so I thought maybe the girls could talk some sense into her. This head injury from her accident is a lot more serious than we first thought but she has been refusing to go back to a doctor. There is a lot going on that I have not been able to post but it is very serious and the load on me has been insane. now, the girls are here and none are working because of this virus insanity. That loads up the food expenses and other things. With no money coming in and me on a fixed income designed for two old people, the food bill has become insane to say the least. Then I had to get the RV running again and get it over to my shop to store it. I have already pushed the limit of my parking with the units I am renting and I knew that I would be on the next eviction notice if I tried to sneak it into the compound. Therefore, I was forced to rent another storage shop. That is $260 a month but my landlord gave me a break and only charged me $200. BUT!!! Now I have to move all of my engines, tools, materials and everything else in the storage shop I had over across the compound to a different building. This Florida heat is insane this time of year. I have been held captive in very cold hospital rooms for the last 3 1/2 months and in my house with the A/C set at 76 or 77. I have become acclimated to the cooler environment and now the Florida heat is killing me. I have taken to working at night moving junk out of the shop and over to the new location. Naturally, everything has gained weight and is twice as heavy as when I put it in the building. :S :S Remember I said this started at the bottom and went down? Here we go on the big downhill part. So far, my tests have been wonderfully positive and the last one on Wednesday was also great. I now only have to go in for checkups and testing once a month. HOWEVER! today I had a skin cancer checkup over at the VA. It was at 9AM and I left in plenty of time. Again, as luck would have it, I managed to find a traffic accident and get stuck on a bridge for 45 mins. I called ahead to let them know I was running late and they said I had to be there within 15 mins or they would cancel and reschedule me another time. That Bites! This appointment was made from another missed appointment 8 months ago. I can't wait 6 or 8 months to get checked over. I managed to just make it with 60 seconds still on the clock so they saw me. All went well and I went to the lunch room to get something to eat. I got my meal and sat down at a table. There were four people eating nearby but all were well apart. My spot was near the trash can where everyone drops their trays when they are leaving. I sat down and started putting salt and pepper on my scrambled eggs, home fries and grits. Just as I started to eat some jackass walks over to the trashcan and as he is dumping his tray he starts coughing right across me and breakfast. Not a little cough but what sounded like a heavy chest cold. Now, with this crazy virus crap around I just got up and threw my entire tray of food in the trash. I am not one to waste food but I still have a weakened immune system and I am not willing to try to fight off this virus because some buttwipe can't have a little common sense and put his mask back on and not start coughing all over a lunch room.

Okay, then I picked up a script and headed home. This was not to be a normal trip home. I was heading for the turn at RT.19 and 5th Street North when this idiot in a small car pulled right in front of me. I was doing about 35 or so, maybe a little more heading for the light at the corner. Anyhow, I slammed on the breaks and locked up all wheels. The truck did manage to stop without squashing the little idiot but I don't know how. I even had to swerve real hard to the right and I bet I didn't miss him by more than a foot. When the truck stopped the brake pedal went to the floor. The brakes had worked perfectly when I needed them but then they went out. I pulled into the WAWA store and pulled up to the pump. I popped the hood and before I even lifted it I saw a stream of break fluid running from under the truck. Great! I blew a brake line, I thought. I decided to get something to eat, fill the tank and settle down before looking for the problem with the brakes. By the time I ate my sub and finished my drink I was relaxed enough to look for the problem. Naturally it was way up under s bunch of heavily bolted in equipment. It took about 5 minuits for the store manager to come out and tell me I had to leave to work on the truck or they would call a tow truck. I couldn't argue because the leak had poured a lot of brake fluid all over the ground. Next door was a Wells Fargo bank lot that was empty so I slowly limped the truck over there and parked under a big shade tree. Naturally the truck needed major surgery to get to the broken line. After looking the damage over I decided it was going to be a major job to replace the line. I decided to pinch it off on both sides of the break and get some brake fluid and limp the truck home and fix it tomorrow. That's what I did! There was still a small leak but I was only a few blocks off the interstate and managed to get there without running over any kids or friendly animals. When I got to my exit I drifted the truck to a stop on the shoulder and checked the fluid. I topped it off so I could stop if needed and got off at exit 224. At the left of my exit was an Auto Zone. I stopped and got a handful of brake lines of various lengths and a gallon of brake fluid. I got home and pulled way down into the car port and left the truck sit. I will go out in the morning and replace the line whenever I feel like it. :P :P It is now 12:32 so yesterday is history and tomorrow is going to be a better day, Right?

G'Nite, Y'All! Tomorrows gonna be a brighter day! The truck is parked in the shade in front of a couple of fans and I will work on it whenever I feel like it.    :woohoo: :woohoo: B) B) B)

B) It is Tuesday morning about 2:30AM. I'm still up and still fighting the truck repairs. I stopped and got an assortment of brake lines and other parts like adapters and compression fittings. I believe I said I took the brake line out in three or four pieces to avoid removing any more parts off the engine. I could not make any of the lines or adapters work on Sunday so I went to bed and figured to run to the local Ford dealer on Monday to get a factory line. Getting there turned into a project in it's self. I got there about 12:00 and ran into the "We don't have it in stock but can get one tomorrow," routine. Okay, order it and call me when it gets here and I'll pick it right up. That was all well and good but I had to pay for it up front. No problem. How much? $96.38 or something like that. I went deaf when I heard that a little brake line about 24 inches long was nearly $100. My grand daughter had driven me to the Ford dealer in her Chevy Avalanche. I asked the guy if I could get a discount for having to be seen in my grand daughter's Chevy. I also asked about Military discount, Old Geezer discount or even an old guy supporting 4 crazy women discount. He chuckled and refigured the bill. $72.91! Great, I saved around $25 for whatever discount he liked. That's okay, I'll take it. The 4 wrong threaded lines I bought at Auto Zone were wrong but they only cost me $59 and change. I came very near cutting the ends off the lines and making up some compression fittings or whatever I could fit along the frame. But, I figured I can still return 3 of the lines and other parts and get most of my $59 back. That makes the real Ford part only $13 more than the pile of non working junk I had bought Friday. I would also not have lost three days trying to make a junk part work to save $13. Hopefully, the right brake line will be in around 8:00AM and I can just put it in without having to modify the truck or change the braking system. Three days lost to save $13? What an idiot!

Another quick shopping trip just cost me $200 today. Feeding this crew is proving to be insane. Yesterday I got one of those Stouffer Family size frozen dinners. It was a bit expensive, I thought until I sat down and figured it out. I fed all 5 of us with about $15. The Lasagna was really pretty good. It was quick and was in a container that could just be dropped in the trash or we could wash it and use it for salads or something like that. No big sink of dishes and no box or container to store in the fridge until it got fuzzy green legs so I could throw it out later. I fixed the Lasagna in under an hour and a side of veggies for under $20 including drinks. Not bad I thought. So, today I went to the store and got more of the family sized dinners and several kinds of sides and some other of the frozen meals. I figure there are enough of them with some other things to feed this crew for about 10 days or maybe more. I also got a bunch of other frozen entrées and veggies. I am tired of coming in out of this heat and getting something going for dinner. The wife is not healing very fast from her accident and is supposed to stay off her feet so her bones can start healing. She keeps trying to stand to cook and clean but I don't want her to hurt herself or cause her to take longer healing. She is really hurt bad and will take a long time healing. Today I found out she still has stitches on the left side of her head just above her ear, She has a lot of hair that is real thick and I didn't notice the stitches before. The Daughter pointed them out today. She was helping the wife with doing her hair and changing clothes and spotted them. I'll have to call the doctor tomorrow and see what he wants me to do. I can remove stitches. I have had to do it several times in the past. a couple of times on myself. I guess tomorrow we will have to call her doctor to see if he wants us to come in. She will not be happy if she has to go to the doctor or hospital.

It's almost 4AM so I am going to fix some coffee and take a nap. The part for the truck won't be in until around 8 or 9 so I may as well grab some sleep.

B) Truck part came in on time and the truck was running in a few hours. It was an easy repair after I got the right parts.

The answer to your first question is "NO!"

B) I know what you're saying Pete but what can I do? Remind me the next time we get together and I will fill you in.

I have to make arrangements to get down to look at that Carri soon. My phone has a bad habit of dropping numbers and names and the name and number of the guy with the boat was one of those the phone decided to throw out. I need to get this phone thrown out itself. I have to go online to see if I can still find the number of the guy that gave me the tip on it. He was going to buy it but didn't like the modifications that were made. I, on the other hand, couldn't care less about the remodeling. I was hoping that the engines might run. Even one but even that wasn't of much concern. I just happen to have a couple of those engines in my shop. One is completely rebuilt and ready to drop in. If neither engine in the boat is repairable I still have one to drop in and motor it to wherever I want it. I could drop an engine in and just wander to wherever I can drop anchor for a while to rebuild the other engine right in the boat or bring the second engine from the shop and make one good engine out of two not so good engines. My problem right now is where I can lay my hands on about $5,000. I have some money coming in in a week or two but need to get this boat deal secured until then. I'm trying to get the money together but I have to get the shop moved, alone, and it is taking a lot of time. That and everything going on here are all working against me right now but I am still plugging away at it as best as I can. It may slow me down but I won't let it stop me. I want that boat and if I have to sell off everything else I have to get it, I WILL!

:( By the time I got back to the guy about the boat someone had already put a deposit on it. However, it sounds like a scammer to me. someone that will put up a deposit to tie your boat sale up so he can advertise it elsewhere at an inflated price and take a deposit and leave you holding the bag. I had one of them do that to me several years ago. It tied my boat up for about 2 years. I ended up losing a lot of money on it. Now I tell everyone that my sale items are cash in hand and face to face. Look it over, buy it or don't, pay for it with American folding money and take the boat with you. I do not turn it over to shippers with a check of any kind. No third parties and no paper of any kind. Not even a cashiers check. I got one once that took three months to come back as a forgery. I got stuck for the bad check. The item I sold was long gone.

anyway, I am waiting to see how that plays out. I told him that if the guy turns out to be a phony I am still interested in the boat.

I am starting to get some work going at the shop. I had to move the shop to a larger unit because of storage problems but now I have to work to pay the extra cost of the larger units. I started to get started on a couple of the jobs today but the heat here is insane. No air circulating in the shop is going to be a problem unless I can get one of those big fans. I had one some time ago but left it set out one night and it ran away.

There is some pot roast in the fridge so I think I'll heat up some for dinner.

B) I am still trying to get that Carri Craft. I am starting to get after some work to put back some money. I have the money put back for a Toyota that I am buying and am still pushing to gather enough to get the boat if it gets turned loose from the deposit that is holding it. I am trying to gather every cent I can get my hands on and have it stashed where the gang here won't find it and dry it up. I have to get the stuff in the shop and those unused boat parts, engines, trailers, boats and even some of my gun collection. I have a few jobs in the shop now since I have beat the cancer. I went in for another checkup today and everything looks great. Wednesday I am scheduled to have the big tests that include full body scans, intensive testing for my particular cancer in case it trys to sneak back. Wednesday's tests are once a month and will continue for three more months. At that time I should drop to every two or three months if all results keep coming back clear. I am feeling tired but I think that is because I keep working when I should get some sleep. I have always been hard headed that way.

I was going to sell the covered trailer but someone backed into the tongue and it needs to be seriously repaired. I am going to have to get someone to do some serious welding on it. I can cut out all of the damaged metal but I got rid of my welder some time ago. I should be able to get $2,500 or better out of it if I do a little work. I will add that to the boat stash when I get it. I also have plans to get a few other in house jobs done to where I can not only clear out some stuff but actually make a buck or two doing it. With the new shops I have the room to start really getting some work done.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1...... I am going to head to the boats first and check the batteries, bilge pumps, and maybe even get Baboon running to run over to the mangroves to sneak in a little fishing for a couple of hours one day this week. Wednesday is a big cancer testing day. i have an outboard part coming in about mid-week. When that gets here I want to get the outboard running and loaded to deliver it this weekend coming up. Getting it running should not be a big issue. It has been setting for a long time but it cranks good and the compression is up where it belongs. I did a quick check on it to see if it needed any special strokes or favored treatment to be sure it is running right.

Next, I have a 40 HP Mercury that needs a lower seal. I don't think the owner is going to want to hear what that is going to cost. Pulling the powerhead is not cheap on a 4 stroke outboard and he already said he doesn't want to spend over $400 to $500 on it. I don't think I can do it that cheap but I will see what the crash books say before I give him a verdict. I know I don't want to get stuck with another old damaged outboard. To many people drop off engines for work or to get an estimate and when they hear the costs they leave me stuck with the engine. most times I can't even break even for the time I have in the teardown and inspection to work up a cost estimate. It doesn't take a whole lot of those to put me under a big rock. I must have a half dozen old engines that need major repairs that even I can't afford to rebuild. They're just not worth the time and cost of parts on these older engines. On this one I hung it on the lift and cranked it over to get a compression test. I left it hanging overnight and the next morning I had a huge puddle of oil under the engine. Searching around it was real easy to see where the oil came from. Yeah, stop leak may hold it for a short time but the final outcome is going to be the same weather it is replaced now or later. I do NOT jury rig engines to get rid of them. I will return the engine if he wants it but will not have a hand in trying to unload it on someone that thinks it is a good engine.

Next, I have a GM 350 that spun a rod bearing on the number two rod. It was knocking slightly and I had another engine so I just swapped it out and pulled the engine down to see if there was any crank damage. All is good. I will install a new set of rod and main bearings and get it back together fairly easy. It should be able to fetch in about $1,200 to $1,500 just sitting on the bench. I don't install engines any more except for myself. To much work. I'll give someone a real good break on the cost of an engine and they can install it themselves or hire someone else.

Okay, the Mustang is back. It was damaged and needs some other work. I had it brought to the shop and started doing the body work Saturday. The body work will be very easy but then I have to see if I can still match the metalflake paintjob. It is very custom and luckily, I may still be able to match the color and metalflake formula. The advantage I have here is that is is one of MY PAINTJOBS! I will also be installing a new convertible top and doing some other work.

Next, my own truck is having a royal fit. I had to switch it from a column shift to a floor shift system. It shifts like a new truck and all of the gears are easy to get to and is fun to drive again. Even the 4WD is working great. The problem is that now I have no brake lights, no flashers and no turn signals. I have been waiting on getting back to work to get to fixing it. So, now I am back to work! So, now it looks like I have a full workload building up. I am also thinking of doing something with the Hatteras. I don't know what just yet. Any suggestions? I have two 3208-T Caterpillar Diesels that are worth more for each one than I am asking for the whole boat but I can't get anyone to make a serious offer. It is insane, the kind of offers I get. I was real tempted to throw the last guy overboard. His offer was so stupid that I really thought about knocking him off the boat. He said, "You have to get rid of it anyhow so why should I pay more than scrap for it?". YUP, THAT ALMOST GOT HIM A FREE DIVE PACKAGE.

So, it looks like I am going to find out if my old body is up to working again. The heat and humidity has been getting to me pretty hard lately but Fall is coming and it should cool off to the lower 100's before to long. :woohoo: :woohoo: :S But, I refuse to give up without one "hellofafight!" We are going to find out if I can still pull a rabbit out of my hat. If I don't get a shot at this boat I will find another one. If I do I need to have the money put back to offer real AMERICAN FOLDING MONEY. None of this "Let's Make A Deal" thing. I mean, I wouldn't turn down a good deal where the owner would help with financing. I am always open to a good offer.

ARE WE READY TO GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD??? I WILL TRY TO KEEP THIS GOING OVER ON WHITE FEATHER ALSO BUT I WILL KEEP IT GOING HERE FIRST.

HERE WE GO! This is a 19 foot Venture Bass Boat. I have several good engines I could pair up with it. I am thinking of pulling it out of the weeds where it has been for the past three years or so and refinishing it from the keel up and adding a nice engine. I have a trailer that would be extra heavy duty with new rims and tires. I will pull it out of the weeds and see what I have to work with. This was a real nice bass boat. I will look into getting started on it after a little inspection and checking on what I have to work with. I'll post a start to finish and see what I can sell it for once it is together and ready to drop in the water and fish....

I remember working on that bass boat with you and John. It's been that long?

B) yup, I set it aside when we started on your boat and never got around to putting a clearcoat on it. That left the basecoat, clearcoat half done and the years were not kind to the half finished paint. It faded, chipped, dissolved and turned to dust over the years of neglect and sitting in the tall weeds. I looked at it the other day and cringed at what it looks like. I thought the basecoat would hold up better than that but I have no experience with that new type of paint. No clearcoat to protect the finish and it washes off with every storm, every day of Florida sun beating down and aging it as fast as us old geezers. It is really a mess and looks like an old abandoned car that was sitting in the woods for twenty or thirty years. Really, it's that bad. I will try to get some photos tomorrow. When we started on your boat I should have put the clearcoat on it before setting it out or at least I should have covered it. 2020 hindsight! Bad Painterman! :S :woohoo:
