Well, I'am on the road again, It's that every 90 days get the hell out of Panama and reset your Tourist Visa thing again. At least with my truck now registered in Panama, I don't have to make that long drive across the boarder. So this morning I jumped on a plane and an hour later I'm in Costa Rica for weekend.

It sure is nice to get out of that hot swelter in Panama and into some cooler fresh mountain air for a change. I do enjoy living on the coast. However, being back up in the mountains reminds me how much I also enjoy living up in the high country and of how much I miss the mountains of Guatemala.

Back on Panamas north shore exploring Portobelo, the last stop for treasure from South America before it was loaded aboard the Galleons of the line, and transported to Cuba, and then on to Spain...

Hello Wreckdiver,
I have a curiosity question for the portobello area , well near(ish).... where exactly is "the grout" as referred to by the mariners circa 1723?
Am curious in thinking is this area now called monkey bay or the likes or if some lagoon is near that area? Any advice?
Many thanks ,
Tew

Thanks for your post Tew, sorry that it has taken so long for me to respond to your question.

I have not heard of The Grout (La lechada) or Monkey Bay (Bahia de mono) anywhere near Colon or Puerto Bello Panama. La lechada is the Spanish translation for The Grout and is also used to describe cement used in early Spanish construction.

However, I did locate a place called "Salto de los monos" or "leap of the monkeys", a waterfall located on the Rio Guanche about 10 kilometers south or Puerto Bello.

It sounds like a really cool location, and I think I will have to go check it out on my next journey to the Caribbean side of Panama.

I hope that was helpfull for ya.

It has been way too long since I have been back home to Florida. I just realized that my last trip home was back in November so that I could cast my vote in the Presidential Election.

Things have slowed down a little bit with the rainy seasons just starting down here in Panama, so I just got off line with my friends at Delta to confirmed a reservation to fly back to Melbourne on the 23rd of June for a 14 day visit to our home in Satellite Beach.

I am defiantly looking forward to spending some much needed quality time at home with Theresa and just wandering around the house for a little while. Also looking forward to some quality beach time and maybe a little SCUBA diving for good measure.

Oh, and some good ol north American food from the Texas Roadhouse

A good Doctor friend with the Guatemala Ministry of Health, whom has assisted us on some of our expeditions into the remote jungles and back country of Guatemala sent me a link this last weekend. The website Guatemala.com recently released a promotional video about the ancient Maya ruins located at the bottom of Lake Atitlan in the western highlands of Guatemala.

Much of this video was shot by our team and I during our expedition to the sunken Maya city three years ago, and is interlaced with video shot by the folks at National Geographic. I personally think that the video shot by Team TreasureWorks is better than that of National Geographic, but that just my opinion. The only regret that I have is that in the underwater sequences we filmed we did not have the proper filters in place on the camera, so the video shows a lot of green.

We now have resolved the camera filter issue, and our next trip to the site we will get much better video.

I have also included a Forum Link below of our expedition to the lost underwater city that also includes our video of our dive on the site.

In any case, enjoy this video!

B) YOU MAKE ME JEALOUS EVERY TIME I READ OF YOUR ADVENTURES DOWN THERE. I WISH I WAS ABOUT 30 YEARS YOUNGER. I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO JOIN YOU. AT MY AGE NOW I WOULD MOST LIKELY BE MORE OF A HINDRENCE THAN A HELP BUT I CAN STILL KEEP DREAMING. THANKS FOR THE UPDATES, MY FRIEND. I'LL LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR POSTS AND PHOTOS AND VIDEOS.

Thanks Russ, I am happy to hear that you are on the mend once again.

Old age has been creeping up on me as well, and I have had to force myself to slow down my pace a little more with each passing year.

Only a couple more years and my work down here should be completed. I am looking forward to returning home to Florida and picking up where I left off in 2008 with my treasure hunting along the coast of Florida. Doing some treasure hunting and being able to be home for dinner and get to sleep in my own bed once again. Ah, It's the little things...

This will require that I start searching for a new salvage boat and equipment since I sold the Enterprise back in 2009, shortly after I started my overseas adventures. Of course, the new boat will require a good crew of salty pirates to man her decks as well.

That is providing you and the gang leave any treasure behind for me to find.

Then I should finally have the time to actually sit down and write about my travel and treasure hunting adventures.

I have been back in Florida for a week now, and yes it is always good to be back home here in Satellite Beach. I have not done any treasure hunting since my return, but it is good to be home again taking care of domestic stuff around the house. However, both detectors are charged and sitting by the door. B)

Today is Theresa's Birthday so we will be going out and doing some celebration later in the day. Her son will be in town later today to help us celebrate. I took her to see the Mummy yesterday. Unfortunately, its one of those movies that we should have waited for it to show up on Amazon Prime. I guess I will try to talk her into the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I saw this movie already, but it was in Spanish, so I am sure it will be more enjoyable this time.

Well I have completed another successful trip home and am in Atlanta waiting for my flight down to Panama. It sure was good to be home again even if just for two short weeks.
I will be returning to Satellite Back again in November for Thanksgiving.

I made it back to Panama late last night after a long delay sitting on the plane in Atlanta waiting for some baggage to be removed from the plane for people who did not show up for the flight. So by the time I got home last night it was like 11:30PM.
