Morning folks, we are on the road once again, and yesterday I headed up to Jacksonville, Florida for the first leg of my long journey back down to Central America. It's been seven months since I closed up our operation in Guatemala and headed back home to the Florida Space Coast. Now it's time to get back to work!

This time we are heading down to the jungles of Honduras, where we will continue our research and studies of Mayan culture and of course to the sandy beaches, and the clear waters of the western Caribbean for some of the best wreck diving on the planet.

The rest of this week we will be on the road with no guarantee of internet connectivity along the way. I will get online when I can, but I will be mostly off-line until I get settled into the Hotel in Honduras.

Day 4 re-cap

Yesterday was a day from hell, I guess that's the best way to describe it. Up early to load the cargo on the plane and injured my right arm in the process, nothing serious though. It sounded like a loud pop at the elbow and lots of good ol pain, and today its only sore when I move it up and down. Other than that, everything seems to be working as it should. Getting old sucks! but at least I can still type on the computer.

We made it about half way across the Gulf of Mexico to our first destination in Central America when we developed mechanical problems and turned back north, and yesterday evening we landed in Tampa to effect repairs on our broken bird. So now I can tell our pilot "No, I'm not an aeronautical engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night".

Anyway, we are going to head back to the airport later this morning to see if the crew has fixed the problem, and if we have a thumbs up from them, we are going to try this again today, except for all that loading equipment in the hot Florida sun stuff.

B) Ahoy Tommy, Don't rush the repair crew. Tell them to take their time and fix it right the first time. It's better to be a little late than the late Tommy. There are no pulloff's up there. Good Luck and Safe Travels my Friend.

You're right, old age is no place for sissies! Everything hurts, quits working or falls off! :woohoo:

Made it into Honduras last night, and all is well. Today is a day of much needed rest and relaxation from a very arduous journey. But we made it and at this stage of the game that is all that matters. We have some more traveling to do before we reach our next destination, and internet connectivity leaves a little to be desired out here in the middle of where ever it is we are today. It is hot and humid, kinda like Florida was when we left last week.

The arm is a little better today, but I am afraid I abused it again last night down loading luggage off of the airplane. I was concerned that I may have done some serious damage that other day, but even after last nights fun it still feels a little better today, so I think it's just a pulled muscle, but time will tell for sure.

It is really good to finally be back here in Central America once again, and I really enjoyed the Tipico breakfast the hotel served this morning. It's amazing how fast the language comes back, even after not speaking much of it for the last 7 months. Not that I was ever even close to being fluent in the language, but I can still order a good meal and that's half the battle.

Took Sunday off just to recharge the batteries, get a good meal and kick back and relax by the pool. Some of us took a nice walk over to the local Mall just a few blocks from our hotel and to the Tigo Store to get a Sim Card for the cell phone, so we all have local numbers now. The exchange rate was a little over 19 Lempira's to the US dollar, and that is about what it was when we were here 2 years ago, so our money still goes a long way down here.

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post on our journey down here in Honduras, so I thought that I would just drop a few lines about whats up.

So fare all is going well down here and the only bad news over the last couple of weeks is that a couple of the folks on my team here have come down with the, shall we say Montezuma's revenge. This is too be expected when traveling through this part of the world, and I guess I have either built up an immunity, or my therapy of excessive amounts of rum to kill off the bad stuff has been working very well.

I was starting to feel like a criminal on the run their for a while staying only a night or two in a hotel, and then moving onto another a night or two later. This starts to get old after a week or so. However, finally found a couple of good old Spanish colonial hotels that meet our needs for amenities like clean rooms with air conditioning, good food, decent internet connectivity and good security at a good price, so for the time being I have finally unpacked my bags and have settled in for a little while.

I took a day trip driving up to the Capitol of Honduras, Tegucigalpa a couple of days ago to conduct a little business, and drop my good friend Chemo off at the airport for a short trip home in the states.

Tegucigalpa is an interesting city, and I will be heading that way in the near future and will be spend a bunch of time. The center of the city seems to be very modern with a couple of good US style malls, and most of the standard north American restaurants similar to what we had when we were living in Guatemala City.

I made the 5 hour drive up from out temporary hang out in south central Honduras to the Caribbean coastal town of La Ceiba in northern Honduras. It's been almost two years since our last visit to this town, and I must say that it's good to be back up this way again.

It's partly cloudy and hazy with about a 90 degree temp here this afternoon, but we have a nice strong breeze coming in off of the Gulf of Honduras making it bearable.

It looks like the locals have cleaned up the place a little, and they have a new Mall for me to go check out later on.

Time to unpack my stuff and get down to the pool to cool off and enjoy a little grog with the boys.

More later...

Hi all, well I'm still here in beautiful Honduras, and have been traveling around the countryside. Not much new that I can update at this time, but I thought I would add some recent pictures of my travels here. Ventured into the town of Tela today doing some checking around.

Headed into the mountains here in southern Honduras last week for a good BBQ with some friends who own a little villa on the mountain top.
