After diving on the Mayan ruins at the bottom of Lake Atitlan last summer, I decided that I needed a better way to film my underwater adventures. It was just slightly problematic diving and videotaping the ruins with a handheld camera. Then I heard about the Octomask that integrated the GoPro Hero 2 camera directly onto your dive mask.

I was a little apprehensive to put out almost eighty bucks on a dive mask that I could not try on first. However, with the comments that I read on the Amazon product reviews I decided to take a chance and order the mask sight unseen.

Well the mask arrived the other day and it seems to be a top quality mask, and it passed the dry leak test on my bearded face, so I'm happy about that.

I will be moving down to the Caribbean in just a couple of more days, and I'm looking forward to taking this mask and camera combination down and blowing some bubbles in the clear tropical waters. I also ordered a red camera filter for my GoPro, but I accidentally ordered a filter for the Hero 3. I ordered the filter for my camera yesterday, and I hope that it arrives before I head south.

Nice. Can't wait to hear how it works and see what you see.
Good luck, Tommy.

Tommy, I can bring it with me if necessary. I can leave it with Freddy or ship it.

Let me know.

B) I have one of those. How do I get it to record more than 5 min? Also, getting the video to upload seems to be rather problematic. Maybe I just need to get something a bit more prehistoric. I am computer braindead when it comes to all this modern technical stuff.

Wreck Diver, I've hung out at Lake Atlitan and Panajachel, Love Guatemala. I have seen the locals spear enormous bass there.
Where are you moving to? X

Yes, Lake Atitlan and the rest of Guatemala is absolutely awesome, and I really enjoyed my three years living there. As for now I am being something of a nomad over here in Honduras. Not sure yet where we settle down at, just checking out the lay of the land and doing some exploring.

Tommy, plans changed...again...back to the states on Tuesday. Had an exciting transfer to Monterrico but relaxing and on my 5th Carona (don't like Gallo Beer). Wasn't able to make a lake trip, my bad. Was hoping I would have time. Missed the shuttle this morning due to the abundance of cervecza last night.

Be safe on your travels, may we meet up again soon.

Sorry to hear that Lynn, I was looking forward to meeting up with you on Utila.
Yea, I never did take a liking to Gallo when I was in Guate.

Take care, and let me know when you get that itch to head back down this way.

Tommy

Wreckdiver, hope I'm not being superfluous here stating already well known facts, but since we've been using all the Go-pros professionally for our company for some time, thought I'd interject and state some facts we've learned via trial and error.

The go-pro 2 comes with a curved lens, which makes for very fuzzy pictures underwater, any attachment has to end up in a flat lens configuration for sharp pictures, Snake River makes a Blurr Fix flat lens that's top notch and will take a top quality screw-on glass filter.

I'm sorry to say that we've found "PolarPro" filters we've used to be sub par quality.

If you can swing the Hero 3 or 3+, they'll both fit the Hero 3 waterproof case (if you use the LED back on the Hero 3+ you have to use it in the Hero 3 housing), and there's a better selection of filters to be had for the 3s; "H2O Tools", makes a snap-on glass German filter that's top quality. (I like the best)
Backscatter makes a neat "Flip filter" where you can swing one out of the way and another one in, they even have a nice macro swing lens. Just don't use their Deep water filter (for over 50 ft deep), someone was on drugs with that one, use lights or the shallower (20 to 50 ft.) filter. (But they are plastic)
I make all my own GoPro underwater trays to suit our situation.

As people naturally tend to stick with what works for them, I'm sure there are new lenses out there I'm not yet familiar with, so any informative feedback would be greatly appreciated, as it seems the entire world is going GoPro. lol Xman
