Hay Johnny0258, welcome aboard TreasureWorks! In the world of treasure hunting research is the key to success, so I would start with researching the history of the Civil War in and around Goldsboro. While the internet can provide a wealth of information, it is usually incomplete. Anyone can find information on the internet, so odds are that anything you find on-line has been found by other like minded individuals and thus you will be swinging your detector over ground covered by who knows how many others.
I have found that the best information is hidden in old dusty books at the local library and or local museums.
Many a treasure hunting secret has been found in the dusty book's of forgotten history, and far fewer folks will take the time to do serious research.
By arming yourself with this kind of information you will be able to be a more successful treasure hunter by searching what could very well be virgin ground.
Anyway, that's just my two bits worth.
