France reveals that false archaeologist wants to excavate Machu Picchu

The regional director of Culture of Cusco , David Ugarte Vega Centeno, said yesterday that the French citizen Thierry Jamin , who intended to excavate Machu Picchu in search of the tomb of Pachacutec, is not an archaeologist nor has any scientific training whatsoever.

The information was given to Ugarte by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France , who warned of the risk to our cultural heritage.

Veronique Gervais, of the Division of Research and Exchanges scientists mentioned ministry in France, met with the Ambassador of Peru in Paris, who warned of this.

"This office has sent an official letter warning that Thierry Jamin is considered a person that can harm our heritage and damaging Franco-Peruvian on archeology," said Ugarte to El Comercio.

SUPPORT TO CUSCO

The French Ministry supported the position taken by the Regional Directorate of Culture of Cusco, which rejected the request for Jamin to excavate Machu Picchu.

"We said that it was an adventurer who was posing as an archaeologist and whose intention was Huaquan Machu Picchu. Now we have been proved right. Should be warned regional authorities and the media to not let be surprised by this 'explorer' who wanted to push through the press, "he reiterated Ugarte.

Thierry Jamin responded to the allegations on his fb Page with the following…

Of course, we are going to ask for a right of reply to this article from "El Comercio" newspaper:
    As we have indicated on several occasions, the education of Thierry Jamin is historian and geographer;

The Chief Officer of the "Machu Picchu" project is the Hilbert Sumire archaeologist with RNA N˚ BS - 0855.

Several judicial complaints were already presented tort of the official of the Regional Department of culture - Cusco, cited in the article of trade, on grounds of aggravated defamation and slander.

These new statements, saying that Thierry Jamin wants "huaquear Machu Picchu" is new defamations.
Again, it's part of this official maneuvers to prevent the execution of the project "Machu Picchu".

The Cusquenian and the Peruvians should not be fooled by these maneuvers. It is a cultural heritage that belongs to every Cuzco, to every Peruvian, and, finally, to the world heritage of mankind.

It sounds as if the Archaeologist's Union is offended that a non-union member was about to get some funding....

LOL, yep me thinks they have started to eat the young.
I'm not yet sure what to think of this guy. On one hand he seems like a good guy trying to do the right thing, yet the established academic community thinks he is more a treasure hunter than an archaeologist. However, he obviously, he thinks he is more archaeologist than treasure hunter.
Sounds like someone with an identity crises! But are not all Archaeologists really just a bunch of treasure hunters?

Heheheh....I couldn't agree more with you both. B)

Then again...it could simply be a case of professional jealousy.

Click through on the link within the article regarding Luis G. Lumbreras. Apparently, Jamin is an adherent of Lumbreras' own theories....and intends to prove instead of proselytize. ;)

Personally, I wish the 'Nick' luck.

Yep the elitist academics want all archaeologists to confine your thoughts and theories to there specific paradigm, and if you cross the line, I guess you go from being an archaeologist to a treasure hunter. He has been cast out...

Hello all

This reminds me of the old saying never count your chickens before they have hatched.

Unfortunatley he made some tactical errors.

There was no need to mention gold in his search public.

If he had said only about the possible burial chambers and not mentioned the gold, he might of gotten more support from archeological community. He made too many conclusions to quick based on asumptions rather than physical evidence.Ground penertrating radar as any operator knows is not an exact science on interpertation.

By publicly claiming there was hidden gold under the temple he has now made looters think that there might be gold under there and has compromised the historical site to potentrial looting and destruction.

For what based on assumptions...It is a clear lesson for us all on what not to do.

Of course you are absolutely correct, Kanack. It was unwise to say the least, and no doubt he is paying the "Piper" for that mistake. I can't help but wonder if it wasn't calculated to draw investors on his behalf. As Tommy said, he seems a nice enough chap (though a bit arrogant, lol) who earnestly believes in his quest, and does seem to have good intentions. But as we all know..."Loose Lips Sink Ships". His attempts to gain fame and funds for his mission may have backfired and cost him access.

I still think he has some merit though and bears watching. Anyone with that much passion deserves to succeed once in awhile. ;)
